Golf on the Costa Blanca
The North Costa Blanca is home to a wide variety of top quality golf courses that provide a challenge to the club golfer. As the area is more mountainous than the South (of Alicante) the scenery that accompanies these course is nothing short of stunning.
South from our villa: Altea (formerly Don Cayo) is a nine hole course with two sets of tees with great elevation change and length. The course is narrow and requires a good degree of accuracy. Benidorm's Villaitana is home to the Levante and Poniente courses. Both are good for players of all ability. the PGA style Levante has wide fairways and many bunkers. The short Poniente is a test of Irons. Further South around Alicante we find Bonalba, famed for its card wrecking 7th, 8th and 9th. Alenda, El Plantio are worth a visit but it is Font del Llop and Alicante which stand out. Alicante uniquely has 6 each of Par3, 4 and 5.
To the North we have the local nine hole courses of Ifach and Javea. The closest 18-hole course is the Marriott La Sella which has three distinct nine hole loops: Whichever combination is played a huge challenge awaits. Further to the North we come to Oliva Nova. This is flat course but features water hazards on 15 of the 18 holes. The course is well maintained and is a must visit. About an hour North we come to the regions premier courses: La Galiana, inland at Tavernes, is simply stunning and requires a buggy. On the coast El Saler blends a mix of parland and links golf. Finally close by Valencia Airport we find El Bosque. This is not for the feint hearted but nevertheless can reward a round of good course management.
